During annual recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, physical abuse is advertised the most. However, Psychological Abuse in most cases precedes physical battering. Verbal aggression in intimate partner relationships is the root cause of all domestic violence. Emotional Abuse prevalence rates are high, averaging around 80%. 40% of women and 32% of men reported expressive aggression, and 41 percent of women and 43% of men reported coercive control. Psychological aggression by an intimate partner was reported by 48.4% of women and 48.8% of men.
